What we were asked to solve

The garden was hard to use in wet weather, with surface water lingering and levels that made a clean finish difficult. Everyday outdoor space felt limited: no reliable patio, a lawn that no longer worked well, and little definition between play, planting and grass. The client wanted a practical layout with proper drainage, solid paving underfoot, clear edges and a lawn they could enjoy without constant mud or puddling.

How we delivered it

We installed a French drain so runoff could be controlled into the surface-water system. Mid-grey porcelain paving went down on a proper base to form the patio and paths. Breeze-block garden walls were built and rendered, finished with wooden sleeper tops to create raised planting beds. We laid Black Ice and oatmeal gravel where specified, bark chips over membrane for the play zone, brought in top soil, completed the planting areas and turfed a new lawn for a crisp, even finish.

Outcome for the homeowner

The garden now drains properly, with firm porcelain surfaces usable in wet weather, a defined lawn and tidy rendered edges. Play, planting and patio zones read clearly, so the space works day to day with far less mess and maintenance.
