Garden design process

1 – Free consultation

One of our friendly staff will visit the property to discuss what you would like. Depending on the type of work you would like, a garden design fee will be agreed and all the details passed on to our designer.

2 – Survey

Our garden designers develop a site map of the area and a thorough understanding of what you want. We bring design materials with us to make sure you know about all the options open to you for your type of landscape.

3 – Design sketches

Based on the survey design sketches are developed with costings for each option.

4 – Final plan

A final plan is developed and delivered with cost estimates. This can be in as much or as little detail as you require. It will include visual blueprints and sketches of your landscape design.

5 – Invoice

When you are happy with the design we will send a written invoice for the work

When can we do the work

Most smaller garden design work can be completed within a week or two. For larger work it can take up to one month for completed plans to be returned.

How will design work be sent to me?

Typically we send conceptual design sketches in JPEG or PNG format via email. These can be requested in paper form however this will incur a small cost and take slightly longer. Master plans will be printed in at least A3 size and mailed, unless requested otherwise.

All other materials such as technical specifications and work schedules can be sent via email or post.

What if i’m not happy with the design?

For most people, their taste is unique. Our design process is designed to iterative so that we can create something which you love. We will ask for examples of the styles you like and the elements you would like to include.

With the information you give us, we will draw up concepts. You choose which parts you like and which you don’t. We then create new concept sketches with your updates included.

This carries on until you are happy with the design.

At that stage we will go into more depth and create a detailed design. This iterative process in used in many types of design and usually ensures that the customer gets what they want.

Can i change my mind about what i want?

We give you total control so you can change your mind about the design at any point. We aim to be as helpful as possible however we will have to charge for anything that goes beyond the agreed work.

Our Garden Design Philosophy

By landscape architect Adrian Scott

Designing landscape, at its core, is about modifying our surroundings to suit a particular need or desire, from simpler motives such as survival and food growing to complex cultural phenomena like gardens and monuments.

Today, environmental concerns play a larger role in landscapes, encouraging local food production and a greater connection with nature and the planet we call home.

Acorn Gardening landscape designs is about creating a place that you can call home, a place that suits your needs and budget and a place that gives delight.

We want you to get out and engage with your garden, we want you to enjoy your home environment and give you something that will last. A garden that can be somewhere to unwind with a cup of tea, somewhere to eat, and somewhere to connect with friends, family or nature.

We encourage Outdoor Living as a healthier, happier, better way to do life at home and are more than happy to help you do so!
